Control Devices with Standard HTTP Requests

HTTP + JSON, with no dedicated API SDK. Start with device discovery and configure fixed delay on the multifunction series.

API DocumentationApifox

01 Get the Device Address and API Token

Create an API Token in the device's security settings. Replace YOUR_DEVICE and YOUR_API_TOKEN with the management address and token. Use the HTTP or HTTPS protocol configured on the device.

The script authenticates with Authorization: Bearer. Request bodies use application/json.

export CHAOSBRIDGE_URL="https://YOUR_DEVICE"
export CHAOSBRIDGE_TOKEN="YOUR_API_TOKEN"

curl --fail-with-body \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $CHAOSBRIDGE_TOKEN" \
  "$CHAOSBRIDGE_URL/api/v1/engines"

Check the HTTP status code and the success field. Engine queries return engine, port and capability information; use the actual identifiers in the response for subsequent operations.

02 Set 100 ms One-Way Delay on an Existing Link

This example is for the multifunction series. Find the link ID in the target engine's virtual link list and replace YOUR_LINK_ID. The request updates only fixed delay in the A → B direction; fields not included retain their settings.

export LINK_ID="YOUR_LINK_ID"

curl --fail-with-body -X PATCH \
  "$CHAOSBRIDGE_URL/api/v1/virtual-links/$LINK_ID" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $CHAOSBRIDGE_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "config": {
      "direction_a_to_b": {
        "enabled": true,
        "delay": {"mode": 1, "value_ms": 100}
      }
    }
  }'

A successful PATCH confirms that the configuration request completed. Ensure filters route traffic to the link and emulation is enabled, then verify the effect through endpoint traffic and counters. FPGA models use their corresponding hardware fields; ask a technical adviser for examples.

03 Download the Python Connection Example

Uses only Python 3 standard libraries such as urllib and json. The script queries engines and virtual links and includes timeouts, HTTP error handling and response checks.

Download the Python Example
python3 chaosbridge_api_example.py --url "$CHAOSBRIDGE_URL"

# Use the actual engine ID from the previous response to read its virtual links
python3 chaosbridge_api_example.py \
  --url "$CHAOSBRIDGE_URL" --engine-id YOUR_ENGINE_ID

Redirect output to a JSON file to save discovery results as the starting point for your automation workflow.

From One Request to Automated Regression

Connect → Read the Target Link → Configure Network Conditions → Run Application Tests → Collect Statistics and Captures → Save Results. Build this workflow in Python, Java, JavaScript, C#, Go or any language supporting HTTP.
