Critical networks must remain available across constrained, complex, distributed and changing paths. Satellite, air-ground, shore-ship, private intersite, emergency vehicles, portable nodes, temporary command sites, backhaul, video, dispatch and encrypted apps face delay, low bandwidth, bursts, intermittent links, multihop paths and security policies.
DDIL means denied, degraded, intermittent and limited communications. PACE defines Primary, Alternate, Contingency and Emergency plans. Validate that each path carries critical services under impairments; controlled lab conditions cover combinations that costly field exercises cannot repeat reliably.
These tests support cyber ranges, selection, acceptance and integration. Ranges need legitimate traffic, load, QoS, impairments and evidence as well as attack samples. Selection should measure real behavior on constrained multihop networks. Scope remains general engineering, reliability and security validation, not sensitive missions or restricted topologies.
