No Traffic on the Target Link
Check from ingress onward to distinguish traffic not reaching the appliance, not matching the link, or not reaching the receiver after processing.
01 Confirm Ingress Packets Arrive
Verify engine, port pair and cabling. Both ports should be Link Up, with ingress RX increases during transmission.
If ingress is empty, inspect the sender, cables/optics, port speed and upstream switching.
02 Compare Rules with Actual Packets
Check actual MAC, VLAN, IP, port and protocol values against filters, and verify the target link. Check reverse-direction ingress rules too.
For encapsulated traffic, confirm the matched header layer. In an isolated test, temporarily use All Traffic to rule out filters, then restore the original rules.
03 Compare Counter Deltas over the Same Interval
Record initial/final ingress RX, target-link, egress TX and receiver counters and compare deltas over one interval.
Ingress without link increments points to matching. Link increments without receiver traffic call for checks of loss, bandwidth, queues, egress connectivity and the receiver.
Use captures at relevant processing points for deeper diagnosis. A link name or successful save alone does not prove traffic enters the link.
