API Authentication Fails
Confirm the request reaches the right device, then check authentication and permissions. Handle timeouts, certificate failures and HTTP authentication errors separately.
01 Confirm the Actual Request Address
Check management address, scheme and port; replace YOUR_DEVICE. Query /api/v1/engines to check connectivity and authentication.
For timeouts or certificate errors, resolve the network/certificate issue before changing tokens repeatedly.
02 Check the Bearer Token Header
Obtain an authorized API Token from the device's security settings. Use Authorization: Bearer followed by one space and the actual token.
Confirm the environment variable is set and contains no newlines, extra quotes or example placeholders. Do not put tokens in public links or URL query parameters.
03 Use Status Codes and Responses to Diagnose
401 usually means valid authentication is missing: check correctness, expiry or revocation. 403 usually means access is forbidden: check account/token permissions and the response details.
For 404, check the API path and software version. Not every unsuccessful response is an authentication failure.
After HTTP success, check the response's success field. For configuration changes, also verify the effect using traffic and counters.
